Istvan Virags tverrfaglige kunstneriske praksis omhandler de sosiale og økonomiske aspektene ved globalisering, industriell- og teknologisk utvikling og påvirkningen dette har på samfunnet og den personlige, private sfæren i menneskers liv. Hans nyeste verk utforsker alternative økonomiske teorier (som økologisk økonomi og post-growth) i kontrast til de miljømessige, sosiale og psykologiske konsekvensene av det dominerende nyliberale paradigmet og myten om ubegrenset økonomisk vekst. Temaer som skiftende økonomiske maktstrukturer, industriell og urban utvikling, (lys)forurensning, datakolonialisme og informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologiens påvirkning på menneskets natur har den siste tiden vært sentrale temaer i hans kunstneriske praksis.
Virag tok sin BFA ved Kunstakademiet på Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo og har en mastergrad i økonomi fra Universitetet i Pécs (Ungarn). I tillegg til sin egen praksis er han også medlem av kunstnergruppen INFOPSIN, sammen med Ignas Krunglevičius, Ayatgali Tuleubek og Ragnhild Aamås.
