I am Shahrzad Malekian, an Iranian interdisciplinary artist based in Oslo, Norway. My work integrates video, performance, and sculpture to explore the transformative potential of play as an artistic strategy. Using the body as both a medium and a tool, I examine cultural, social, and political hierarchies. Participatory and collaborative frameworks are central to my process, enabling the creation of spaces that challenge rigid norms and inspire connection, imagination, and care.
Rooted in the concept of “other spaces”—fluid, performative zones that bridge the present and potential futures—my practice engages audiences through participatory installations, performances, and public art. These works invite reflection on how we experience time, space, and relationships, opening pathways to alternative ways of seeing and being.
My projects have been presented internationally and across Scandinavia on diverse platforms. Grounded in personal and collective experiences, my work seeks to spark new perspectives and moments of transformation within contemporary art and beyond.
With a BFA in Sculpture from the Art University of Tehran and an MFA in Art and Public Space from Kunsthøgskolen in Oslo, I aim to create spaces where the personal and political intersect—spaces of resistance, resilience, and transformation, where audiences are invited to reflect, connect, and reimagine.
