Kunstnerskapet mitt er research-basert, idédrevet og tverrfaglig og tematikken dikterer ofte mediet. Prosjektene mine utvikler seg ofte over flere år og de samme verkene opptrer ofte i forskjellige formater. Et verk kan ha flere elementer, for eks. lydinstallasjon, skulpturelle elementer, performance og tekst.
En tematisk rød tråd i praksisen min er utforskningen av et steds karakter. Både gjennom distanserte tilnærmelser, m.a.o. ideologier og idéer vi påfører naturen, og gjennom de direkte sanselige og kroppsbetingede responsene vi har til omgivelsene våre. Dette har jeg for eksempel utforsket gjennom det langvarige prosjektet mitt Becoming the Forest som handler om skog, økofilosofi, landskapsforståelse og tilhørighet, inspirert av norsk svart metall.

Planlagte prosjekter og utstillinger
Jeg holder for tiden på med en praksisbasert PhD i kunst. I Phd’en ser jeg på mytiske og folkloristiske begreper om land og sted, både reelle og imaginære topografier; fra forestillingene som farger vårt syn på natur og nasjon til konseptet genius loci (stedets ånd), som nødvendiggjør et mer intimt og praktisk forhold til sted gjennom direkte kommunikasjon med naturen og sesongbaserte skikker. Men har slike tenkemåter relevans nå, på tampen av moderniteten? Mange ikke-vestlige perspektiver anerkjenner at det finnes et mylder av bevisstheter i verden utenfor det menneskelige; dyr, planter, ånder, virus, fjell. Hvis dette er tilfelle, hvordan kommuniserer vi så med disse mer-enn-menneskelige skapningene som er så nære oss, men likevel så fremmede i både legeme og uttrykk? Hvordan stoler vi på at sansene og intuisjonen vår kan lære oss mer om dette?
Animistiske tankeganger var mer vanlig i Europa i førkristen tid. De siste årene har jeg utforsket dette gjennom to europeiske perspektiver i nåtiden: gjennom den forestilte lokasjonen som forbindes med «Deep England» og dens konsekvenser for idéer rundt engelskhet (se utstillingen Beneath Clouded Hills for mer info); og gjennom hvordan vi har sett på steiner i Norden.
Eldre tro tilsier at ethvert (bo)sted hadde en egen stedsånd, en genius loci, som ofte bodde i stener eller under jorden. Men hvordan kommuniserer man med ånder som har blitt neglisjert så lenge? Man må jo lære et glemt språk? Kan kunstnerisk praksis bidra til dette, og hvordan så formidle opplevelsen?
