Applied art.
Most of my time as a ceramicist, I have used to make applied art; objects on the border between handicraft and design. The objects have geometric shapes, almost industrial, they are glazed inside and meticulously polished on the outside. Many of the works are related to old containers.
From the functional to the sculptural.
Gradually, I have been inspired by old Norwegian troughs/trau and made some in clay in my own style.
Now, I am making small boxes and sculptures in the Kurinuki technique. This means that I cut out the shape on the outside of a piece of clay and hollowing it out inside. In these works, the form has also been essential, but exploring glazes and various firing techniques has been incredibly exciting.
