Petrine Vinje (b. 1980). I am a visual artist whose work explores how memory, language, and technology operate within the human body, in the archive and in architecture. Technological interventions, artificial space-age materials, the relationship between chance and calculation in working processes inspires my work, just as much as Norse myths, poetry and medieval mystics. I am interested in how collective memories are formed in the museum-collections, in digital networks like the “Cloud”, alongside the subject’s pre-reflective bodily processes.
I work in various media, with emphasis on sculptural and spatial artworks. As part of my practice digital techniques are involved: video, photography, and sculptural design through CNC routing and thermoforming. My works have been exhibited in solo exhibitions at F15, Fotogalleriet, and the Historical Museum, amongst others. I have completed several public art commissions, including works for the Research Council of Norway and the Norwegian Defence Estates Agency, commissioned by KORO. I earned my Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Institute of Colour in 2005 and completed my PhD in Artistic Research at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2024, based on the project Surfacing Solids, which further deepened my exploration into the material and conceptual dimensions of memory and meaning. I am running O – a publication platform and I have released a few artistbooks.
