Elisa Halvorsen Castillo (b. 1990) is a Chilean artist with Norwegian ancestry. She is based in Oslo after recently completing a masters in the art and craft program at The Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Working with analog experimental techniques, Elisa explores the concept of memory and its plasticity. Currently, her work focuses on combining photography, drawing and self publishing, researching on how memories and perception are affected by mental illness.
Her artist-books have become part of the Norwegian National Museum, Preus museum (Norway’s National Museum of Photography), and The Oslo National Academy of the Arts library collections.

In my studio
In my studio you can see a collection of self published artist books combining analog photography processes with printmaking techniques, and a selection of photographs, drawings and prints.
I will be showing a projection of a work in progress hand drawn animation.
Having a contemporary jewellery background, I will be showing a small selection of silver rings made out of candles.
Planned projects and exhibitions
After recently launching my latest photobook “Knoklene blir til trær”, I started working on a hand drawn animation basen on my publication titled “Parásitos”. Reflecting on how parasites can provoke mental illness, this publication contains a collection of drawings of fictitious “Anxiety parasites”. Illustrating the feeling of walking through a dense forest, the drawings overlap each other, as an allegory to brain fog caused by anxiety.
