Doris Guo (b. 1992) is a recent MFA graduate from Oslo National Academy of the Arts, and holds a BFA from Pratt Institute, NY and is currently based in Oslo. Guo’s general approach comes out of a desire to capture ambient dispositions toward the social patterns and ritual dimensions of living. Rather than providing an explicit narrative that her sculptures become remnants of, she suggests oblique narratives and feelings by repurposing and recreating disparate objects and materials worn by human usage. Working with a variety of materials and media, the bodies of work she produces often come from a journalistic approach to the feelings and affects of lived experience.
The ambiences of the day-to-day remain a starting point of her practice as she works with readymades and the visual languages of interior spaces.

In my studio

My studio is not only a space to try out and think about presentation and materials, but also a place for socializing. Our studio collective likes to enjoy lunch together, and chat about our projects and how to help each other. Having a space to talk about things is important, so we will certainly love to have visitors over with some coffee and snacks.

Planned projects and exhibitions

I have a forthcoming show at Galleri K4 in Oslo in the Fall, and also an upcoming project with another artist and friend, Andreas Hatt. The project with a friend involves sourcing animal rescue materials, and the use of ribbon curtain to carve a space out. This duo person exhibition will largely involve sculptures.
