Lise Linnert

(She/her)
Address:

I sew stitch upon stitch. Or dye recycled textiles with plants and roots. Or draw with light, breath and ash. I arrange workshops and invite people to co-create and talk. Around the table. Above the dye pots. In the darkroom. I am interested in igniting engagement through working with the hands. Experience community. Working with our hands give space for a different kind of conversation. More intimate and honest. And thereby becoming more hopeful. I hope it leaves an imprint, a trace. Duration is important in my practice. I repeat actions and collect and save the materials being made, using it to create site-specific installations.

Planned projects and exhibitions

BREATHE IN SYNC solo exhibition Kunstbanken, Hamar, autumn 2024
“Puste in sync” is based on a textile work “365 days” which consists of several hundred recycled bandage pieces, each 8 × 12 cm. On it, I have daily woven or drawn with thread a response. I am creating a book for the exhibition that focuses on the importance of our hands and how working with our hands help us process, understand, give us relief. Make space. Or protest. Take action. Art historian and writer Nina Schjønsby is editor and several writers, poets and art colleagues are invited to contribute.

BREATHE ME VISIBLE! (www.pustmegfram.com) Interdisciplinary collaborative project. Elisabeth Thorsen (writer and priest), inmates of Ullersmo and Trondheim prisons and dance artists. Derived from a 2.5-year workshop in the prisons, the project consists of an exhibition, dance theater and discussion program. In 2023, we showed the project in Nidaros Cathedral during Olavsfest. This year, together with graphic artist Lucia Aragon and inmates at Ullersmo, I will complete parts of the material for a permanent exhibition in the prison. The group are also planning new workshops in other prisons and showing the performance and exhibition in various public spaces.

NI EN MORENI EN MORE (2017 – ongoing), Cd Juarez, Mexico. An educational center, sewing and natural dye studio for women exposed to violence, founded by textile artist Jane Terrazas (Juarez) and Lise Linnert. www.nienmore.org
Supported by the Mellon foundation, USA, we have in the past year been able to expand and set up several small sewing and dyeing workshops to include more women. We now have 17 women employed. We wish to spread knowledge and have set up a mobile dyeing workshop in a refugee camp on the border to the US. In the camp thousands of people are stranded in an attempt to cross the border to the US. In collaboration with the Mexican Embassy in Japan, we will in 2024/25 collaborate and exchange experiences with women in Japan.
