Marianne Bredesen was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo. Her main fields are installation, sculpture and sound work. Themes dealing with reality and unreality, visual deception and perspective distortion have always been present in Bredesen’s work. Universal philosophical questions that encompass time, space and state are also recurrent in her work. She is concerned with craftsmanship and challenges the juxtaposition of different techniques and the use of the qualities of the materials.
She has participated in exhibitions at Tromsø Kunstforening, Norsk Skogmuseum, Kunstnernes Hus, Noplace, Galleri 69, Kurant and Telemark Kunstsenter. She is represented in the KODE collection. Through the KORO-supported project Wittgenstein on Vacation (2015-2020), she developed, in collaboration with two other artists, the world’s largest monument to the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein at his cabin in Skjolden. Part of this project was shown as part of the exhibition “Machines à Penser” at Fondazione Prada, Venice (2018).
