Magnus Tomt (1994, Våler) lives and works in Oslo. He works with painting, images and objects in the aftermath of post-conceptual and appropriation-based practices, with a main focus on abstraction and readymades. How paintings, images and objects exist visually and theoretically in a market economic system today, where history, meaning and intention are increasingly being erased, are central questions in Tomt’s practice.
The aesthetic motivation behind the neo-geo movement has also largely influenced his practice, where reductive strategies are emphasized, and questions related to sincerity, contradiction and economy within art production today are in focus. Creating a critical dialogue around abstraction as a surface, an image, and its indefinite form in a post-digital world today is considered a main focus within his practice.
