After completing my master’s studies at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art in 2012, I have, over a twelve-year period, been engaged in the series “Paper Drawings.” These are a series of sculptural drawings in space that emerged as an extension of my earlier traditional drawing practice. In these process-based site-specific installations, the role of paper in a drawing universe is shifted. The works have three-dimensional forms with sculptural characteristics, yet I maintain that they can also be considered drawings. My works are contemplations and challenges of the concept of drawing, where I am thematically concerned with the ephemeral and mutable. I engage with drawing as an action and idea as opposed to traditional technique. My line is manifested through physical actions with spatial qualities, in contrast to a line as a two-dimensional mark on paper. I draw “with” rather than “on” the paper. In the further development of my expression, several performance-based works have also emerged, known as “Paper Drawing Performances.”
