I am working with my hands in close contact with the materials: drawing and printmaking, hand-made books, small objects, installations, sometimes textiles and photo. My favorite sport is rapid sketching – intense concentration and quick response – trying to catch presence, strenght and movement. The bigger projects require a slow, meditative way of working, because of the pure physical work and the necessary time for studies and reflection. I like working on a theme which I handle using different techniques. Together, the works form a visual entity.

Planned projects and exhibitions
I want to show my on-going project on thousand years of crosscultural history of the coasts around the Indian Ocean, focusing on the Swahili culture of East Africa, and on the time before Vasco da Gama ”found” the sea route to India. Handmade maps and sketches of historical sites will be combined with printwork and drawings inspired by people and situations of to-day. My maps are based on Arabic, African and Western sources and scientific books on Swahili history. Fairly good knowledge of kiSwahili and interest in all aspects of the culture has eased my entry into this universe.
