Sculptor Julia Vance seemingly bends stone in her sensual sculptures. In her studio in Oslo and Tuscany, she carves elegantly twisting planes and cavities in marble and granite. With simple yet powerful reduction of form her work bridges between classical sculpture and conceptual expression, often suggesting philosophical considerations for existential words.

In my studio

My studio is filled with models in plaster and clay and wood and even stone. There are sketches for sculptures, samples of material (stone and wood), half-finished carved pieces, plaster moulds and sacks of plaster, stone-carving tools and files and sanding paper, calligraphy pens and drawing paper, magnifying glass and more models…

Planned projects and exhibitions

Creating and carving a new body of work alongside creating public art work (comissions).
