Description of the artistry
I have worked with embroidery as a form of expression for many years and developed the expression through drawing, weaving, fabric printing and various graphic printing methods.The embroidered expression is figural, from almost impressionistic to complex and detailed.
I use recycled fabrics; fabrics that are often very delicate. Part of the theme in my works is the interaction between the old fabric and an embroidered motif. The embellished areas become part of the story.
I was born in 1971 and have my education from the University of the Arts in Oslo and Bergen. I have exhibited both nationally and internationally for the past 20 years, at institutions such as the National Museum, KODE, Soft Galleri and Trafo Kunsthall. My works are in the collections of KORO – Public art Norway, National Museum of Decorative Arts ad Design and the National Museum as well as in the exhibition Collection of the new National Museum.

The title is taken from the book Bedouin traditional medicine in the Syrian steppe by Francesco
Sincech and Al-Khatib.
Caravanserais are inns and lodgings along the thoroughfares of the Middle East and Central Asia, and testament to ancient multicultural trade and cultural exchange between traders, pilgrims, local people and nomadic people – including Bedouins from the Syrian desert steppe, with valuable knowledge of the medicinal use of plants. In the troubled relationship between the Western and Muslim worlds, the caravanserai inspire the search for new platforms for multicultural dialogue.

In my studio
In my studio you can see how I work with
textile dyeing techniques before I start working with needle and thread. The studio is filled with fabrics, yarns and threads of linen, cotton, silk and wool. I also work with hand spinning and you will find spinning equipment such as a modern spinning wheel, drop spindles, hand carders, drum carders, blending board and fiber of various kinds. Printing blocks from various countries, fabric print samples, sketches and drafts. I also have objects such as clothes, feathers, dolls, old sewing machines and books that I have collected during my artistry.
