My process is an exploration focused on how applying different destructive, or otherwise powerful, forces on a material, makes it react and want to move, evolve, change and transform in different ways. It is a collaboration between my active choices and the material’s reactions, where I make room for the material to move as it wishes as it is no longer forced into submission of the function we need it to cover. I base my work on found objects, leftovers, and surplus materials – objects and materials that have outlived their purpose to us. These objects are generally recognizable to most people, though often overseen or taken for granted. My work centres around stripping these objects of their functionality through forceful and destructive actions, liberating the material and heightening it as something valuable in and of itself.
With death comes life, and through destruction the material is resurrected, given new life as something different, something previously unknown, something with its own will and personality.
