I am investigating how a painting relates to real life through abstraction. I am especially interested in how mental space exists in relation to the physical space. And painting’s place in this. Therefore, the action around the painting, the format and architectural conditions are given significant attention in my work. Internally in a painting, I mostly focus on the appearance and variations of signs, light and color – and I am guided by the materials. I am intrigued by how these aspects can change and relate to certain points of view.
Painting
In my studio
I work projectbased and in series, in which I investigate the paintings in correspondance with themes and subjects due to interests in psychology, nevroscience, sosiology and politics, often situation-spesific (space, place, personal circumstances). I paint with water colour, glue, tempera, ink, wood stain and oil, on canvas, wooden board and paper. Already from the raw canvas and the sizing, I gradually build the painting; often in distinct layers with different materials, textures or attitudes. The painting carry its own prosess.
