I work with textile paintings where my visual vocabulary is taken from my immediate surroundings. The works that are strung up on stretchers may resemble paintings, but the fact that the images are made up of fabrics gives the work a different tactility and physicality. The intensity does not lie in coats of paint, but rather in the stitches and in the qualities of the materials. The textures and hand stitched threads create both complexity and intimacy in the works, which occur between the two and three dimensional.
My interest in the world of sports is a recurring reference in my process, and serves as a scene to mirror various situations and feelings from everyday life.
