Hanna Sjöstrand examines central mythologies of the modernity through conceptual processes. Her range of methods is extensive and gives rise to series of paintings displaying diverse expressions. The common thread is an exploration of the explosive potential in painting, as a language, and a probing of dimensions of human perception and knowledge.
Her latest work focuses on site specificity in painting and ways to manifest holistic dualities in the painting process, in order to detach from perspective arising due to the paradigm of cartesian dualities. Sjöstrand seized using industrially produced colours in 2018, in favour of pigments sampled from her surroundings. She also introduced theatre mask as a method for depiction. This allows perspectives to arise from interaction, rather than objectification.
Sjöstrands practice also extends to perfoming arts, film and installation.
