The studio is open Saturday 26 April from 12-17
I follow a recipe in the process leading up to new works. I paint patterns on textiles, which I take out and lay in different landscapes. I let it fall between cracks in the mountains, over rocks or sand dunes. When the textile follow the terrain, the pattern painted on it, also adapt to it. In this way I have captured the movement in the ground using textile and pattern, like echoes of nature. I document and record, and finally convert the measurements into flat works. The measurement is physical, direct and 1:1.
In comparison to current methods of measuring the Earth, I operate in a more human scale, it relates to the hand, body, and touch. I am fascinated by how the earth was measured and maps been drawn through the ages.
For many years I been working with only black and white, but in recent years, embroidery and colors have become more prominent. On one hand, I charge my work with time, more warmth, and care. On the other hand, it`s so much embroidery and thread that it tangles with something that is no longer homely and safe. Traces of time hang as physical evidence in the picture surface. The threads lie like a veil over the illusion of the movement.
