Light in the darkness! I am not afraid of beauty.
In challenging times, when the world no longer resembles what we once knew, I, as an artist, must retreat to my studio and create—this is what I know, and this is what I am called to do.
In the early 1990s, I studied in Japan, more specifically in Arimatsu, Nagoya. I lived there on several occasions in the home of Mr. Takeda and learned directly from the local artisans. In Japan, textile and material-based art held a high status, where materials, concept, and craftsmanship were regarded as equal components. I explored a folding and dyeing technique that, at the time, was not widely known in Europe.
Specializing in Itajime Shibori, an advanced method of resist dyeing using wooden blocks and folding techniques, that was my starting point. Traditionally, this method is applied to lightweight textiles, but over time I developed a way to apply it to a heavy wool fabric.
I enter into a dialogue with the material and the color, searching for that moment when the expression begins to respond and communicate. Experience and observation provide new impulses, and the work evolves in tandem with the movement of the hand.
“Being creative is not so much the desire to do something as the listening to that which wants to be done: the dictation of the materials.” —Anni Albers, Weaving in a CollegeI work in both small and large formats, creating textile installations. My watercolors on paper serve as input and inspiration for the textile works. I often view my textile as large-scale watercolor works on wool. The paper and the wool material share remarkably similar properties in their ability to absorb and respond to color.

In my studio
If you are interested in viewing textile works and watercolors featuring sublime color transitions—both small and intimate, as well as large and monumental—I invite you to explore my practice. I have completed numerous commissions for public spaces, including the Consulate General in New York, Svalbard Airport, and the embassies in Tokyo and Abu Dhabi.
The piece that was previously installed in the salon of the Consulate General in New York can now be seen in my studio during Oslo Open, as it has been carefully cleaned and is ready for a new destination.
Planned projects and exhibitions
Nesodden Kunstforening, Oct 2025
I an currently exploring new forms of expression for future art commissions.
