My work is a playground of failures, provocation and misinterpreted narratives. The purpose of my artworks is to subvert masculine and ableist standards and propose more complex and multilayered identities. In my recent works I am exploring my albino identity and impaired vision. More specificaly, I am interested in how albinos are represented in occidental history and contemporary pop culture.
My practice is separated in two parts. The first part is engaged with the production of new mythologies. Through paintings, engravings and fake documentaries I am misinterpreting and blending already existing narratives in order to present a different approach in the understanding of history rather than the classic male-based narrative of the winner. In my stories I am failing to adopt to masculine roles by overperforming tasks that do not fit in with my disabled bisexual identity.
A perfect example of this type of stories is my previous long term project named Cthulian Prophecies (please see attached pdf), where, I presented myself as a half-blind albino and YouTube vlogger who’s painting prophecies of Cthulhu. The prophecies were reversed conspiracy theories where I am describing a queer future of dystopian pleasures.
In my present long term project Kakurlackó Order: Department of Culture and Heritage I present a fake story about an albino heretic sect of monks and produce works which are assumed to be from the Medieval period. Following the albino depictions in literature and Hollywood, my works are affirming stereotypes that albinos are the incarnation of evil. The purpose of this work is to drive these stereotypes to a ridiculous dead end
The Second part of my practice is my sound art project POP Tektonism where I test the aesthetics of “rock-star” lifestyles. With an emphasis in pop music, I present a vulnerable image of a “star”, which contradicts to the polished and empowered image of a rock-star. In my performances, I exhibit weakness, uncomfortableness, prone behavior and trauma. In my songs, I am celebrating disability, bisexual confusion and queer negativity.
