kamera-basert, installasjon, poesi
Through an interdisciplinary practice ranging from paper-based works to audio-visual installations to creative writing, I confront the borders of identity with the uncanny, the uncomfortable and the hybrid body. I make, take, and wear unfamiliar symbols. I use the language of traditional tattoo, which write stories of courage on some skins, yet sits as a cheap copy on my own. My own body is used performatively; both as tool and locus for the exploration of culture, filiation, and personal mythology.

Planlagte prosjekter og utstillinger
Upcoming in 2020, a residency at the Fonderie Darling in Montreal, Canada. I will develop the following project:
“you really are quite something”
Two speakers make up the two halves of a biracial mestiza. One performs the White half, the other performs the Brown half. They challenge each other’s positionality. They swap positions and play each other’s roles. They are dressed in a combination of contemporary and traditional clothes. In the attempt of getting close to the other, there is a sense that a boundary can be crossed, a claim may be made where there is no entitlement. The conversation goes from warm to hostile, nurturing to suspicious, as each teases the other through song (remembered and forgotten), language, dress, and the symbolic offering of a mango.
The video is projected onto a lenticular screen. The screen with its zig-zagging surface receives two different projections – the separate channels showing both sides of the conversation. The viewer walking around the screen can then watch the conversation unfold from either point of view, or from the middle where they come apart, weave together.
During this residency, I will continue performing with the two characters from this work, manifesting as photo, video and performance.
