Kotkowska, Magdalena

mixed media

In my practice, by researching a system of possible movements in time and space, I raise the issue of contemporary readability of the matter; the gesture, ritual and temporal monuments of human existence. I am inspired by the past, historical and cultural heritage of Europe.

My fragmented aesthetics are a consequence of an interest in collage, archeology and collective memory. Therefore, I am trying to embrace craft techniques and create contemporary form, using materials that have been salvaged and transformed.

The METAMORPHOSIS, fugitive, ephemeral nature of one material as a result of subsequent interactions is causing juxtaposed duration of another.
Balancing on the edge of hylozoism, my artistic practice serves as a temporary confluence of energy, places, time and concepts. The Form is in constant transition and that fundamental, mutable nature of objects and ideas is my main interest.
