Umar, Ahmed

Skulptur, smykker, maleri og performance

Ahmed Umar (b. 1988)
I am influenced by my upbringing and the cultural surroundings of Sudan. I narrate the details in the contrast of living in secular society against my experience on living in a society structured around religion and strict traditions. I question, analyze, dismantle and reconstruct my past experiences using various types of media, such as sculpture, jewelry painting or performance. Motivated by resistance, guided by curiosity to find ansewrs, I use my art as a prove of my existence, a tool to claim my history or a voice to promote for LGBT+ rights in both Norway and Sudan.
