Stensrud attempts to localise tensions and connections between different historical layers. Aesthetically it’s a battle between the minimalistic and the maximalistic, between the abstract and the figurative. Wax is the main material, which, with its skin like and ritualistic qualities, binds all the elements together.

In his ongoing project it’s particularly the connection between futurism and the baroque he investigates. At the centre of this connection stands to banquets: «The Feast of Herod with the Beheading of St John the Baptist», a ten metre long painting by the baroque artist Bartholomäus Stroebel, and «The Extremist Banquet», a text by the father of futurism, Marinetti. Both were created as allegories for, and critique of, the political situation of their present time.
