Stefan Schröder is an artist and curator and holds a master in art from Art Academy in Dresden and Breda (The Netherlands). He mainly works with drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation and socially engaged- and participatory art. His work is always dialog based and open for participation though sharing of ideas and resources. In the long-term project Common Alphabet, (1991-ongoing) he uses cardboard packaging as stencils for multiple works like drawing, painting, silk screen prints, sculptures and murals. In his photo project Contributor, (2004-ongoing) Schröder investigates his own working practice; through a series of self-portraits shot with an analogue medium-format camera, he discloses his varied and multi-faceted work-life as carpenter, exhibition technician and artist in his atelier. His participatory art practice includes ongoing processes where young people from non-western countries contribute with their ideas and experiences as instigators for new art projects. Schröder is part of the art collective Tenthaus an artist run platform for various activities including exhibitions, education, sharing thoughts and time.
