Gleditsch, Espen

Photography

Espen Gleditsch (b. 1983) works experimentally and investigatively with photography, text-based works, painterly interventions in the gallery space and sculptural works. In his artistic practice, he examines fundamental issues of how we construct and perceive history. His recent projects have taken as a point of departure the lost colours of modernist architecture and antique sculpture. A common thread in Gleditsch’s practice is questions about how narratives concerning historical and contemporary events are formed, disseminated and legitimized. With his projects, Gleditsch questions how coincidences, unintentional displacements, human desires, and ideology determine the aspects of history that are retained and which ones are rejected in order to establish a coherent narrative, and for whom.
