Sculpture, costume, performance, installation, photography and video

Anja Carr transforms animals and toy-figures in a theatrical world, following a dream-or nightmarish logic with no limits between genders, humans and animals, children and adults. She explores the «abject» – things between subject and object – that we often find repulsive. PAPER Magazine (NYC) 2019: «Incorporating life-size ponies, trolls, and Ninja Turtles, Norwegian artist Anja Carr explores how images manipulate the conscious mind (…) when images create their own memories that didn’t exist before appearing on our feeds.» iD magazine (London) 2017: «(…) children’s characters are often brought to life (…) pointing to the way domestic space is gender-coded, and shapes our psyche (…)»
