Niemczyk, Aleksandra

I am a painter, a print maker, and a film artist, but regardless of the medium with which I work, my process remains intuitive. I progressed from lithography to painting, then further to film installation.

With respect for the great non-figurative modernists, and with uncompromised dedication to abstraction based on organic geometry and colour theory, I push my works towards complex aesthetic compilations of lines, shapes, colour, and forms, using simple geometric forms placed in non-illusionistic space and combined into non-objective compositions.

I carefully select forms and images, deconstruct them into abstract elements, and reconstruct them in a composition that creates an impression of the subject rather than a narrative description. Experimenting with textiles such as canvas, silk, cotton, paper, thick oil or acrylic paint, asphalt, and gold leaf, my works transcend the flatness of the canvas. Through puzzle-like constructions, I wish to stimulate the tactile senses of the beholder. Form, line, and colour have their role in the composition as much as the sensual “substance” of the painting as physical object.
