MacMillan, Jessica

Sculpture, installation, video

Jessica MacMillan (b. New Hampshire, USA, 1987) lives and works in Oslo, Norway, where she received her MFA from the Academy of Fine Art in 2016. Through a multidisciplinary practice using readymade sculpture, installation, and 3D animation, she illustrates concepts within astronomy and their relationship to the actuality of daily life on our planet. It can be argued that in astronomy, reality and appearance are more disconnected than in any other area of human experience. In other words, there is a gap between our everyday life and our larger reality: on a planet, in a solar system, within a galaxy, among billions. This gap creates a necessity for metaphor, and an opportunity to explore the structure and materialities of this reality from different angles.
