Avdagic, Damir

Video, performane, text

Damir Avdagic is an interdisciplinary artist, currently living and working between New York and Oslo. Damir Avdagic´s artistic practice is based in performance, text and video and deals with issues of historical memory and identity.

Through various strategies, Avdagic and the participants in his work perform recorded dialogues, conversations and letters which are circumscribed by the same historical event. The work reflects on how the experience of immigration and exile effects subjects in the present and how war related trauma is transferred and negotiated between generations.
The historical background for Avdagic’s work is the conflict in Ex-Yugoslavia, which lasted from 1991-1995 and from which his family fled to Norway in 1993.
